Ziva Gorani as a young child (right)
LGBTQ activist Ziva Gorani recounts her harrowing tale of survival and escape from Syria to Canada. Ziva grew up in the city of Allepo and endured racism as an ethnic Kurd. As a transperson, Ziva's life was in constant danger. Ziva survived rape, a suicide attempt, and threats in public that forced a daring escape into Turkey past ISIS-controlled checkpoints. Ziva shares her personal and highly intimate story of finding her true identity and making her way to Canada with the help of a journalist and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
