Toronto, March 3, 1999 -
"Racism. Wash It Away" was produced by C.W. Jefferys
students Paul Nguyen, Chris Williams and Helen Vong. This
video entry was among 10 winners (selected out of
320 student entries across Canada) in the Racism. Stop It!
National Video Competition
organized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
The competition challenged
young Canadians, aged 12 to 18, to create a video, 60 to 90
seconds long, that expresses their thoughts on how to
eliminate racism in Canada.
The
winning entries premiered on the MuchMusic awards show and
aired across Canada to celebrate the International Day for
the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. The
Honourable Dr.
Hedy Fry, Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Status
of Women, recognized the participants.
MuchMusic's Juliette Powell
and MusiquePlus' Genevieve Borne co-host the program in
English and in French. During the program, 10 prize-winning
anti-racism videos are shown, as are performances by
Maestro, Les Colocs, Melanie Doane and Wide Mouth Mason.
